LIBERIA PEACE-BUILDING PROJECT

Mindfulness for Healing Trauma & Conflict

In bringing an Earth Treasure Vase to Liberia we forged long term relationships with former combatants, ex-child soldiers and the women who stopped a war. After burying the Earth Treasure Vase in the worst-fought region of the war, our Liberian NGO, the Peace Hut Alliance for Conflict Transformation (PHACT) was founded to foster peace and teach mindfulness as a tool for conflict resolution and trauma healing. Under the Peace Huts we are building in conflict-prone communities across the country, on the radio, and in schools, our team is providing their fellow Liberians with new tools to grow a culture of peace. This work for peace and healing is a tangible example of what can come from a little clay pot filled with prayers and offerings. In Liberia, where daily life is a constant challenge we practice an on-the-ground engaged activism that fosters compassion in action.
Since 2010, the Peace Hut Alliance for Conflict Transformation has been building traditional Peace Huts in violence-prone regions of Liberia. Harper M. Karmon, Christian Wolo Bethelson and Annie Nushann are skilled peace builders who run programs under the Peace Huts to empower women and bring healing and reconciliation to ex-combatants and former child soldiers.

We need support and partnership to keep this work going month by month, year by year. Join our team and become a peacebuilder, too.

In 2018 a small group of us made a pilgrimage to Nepal to visit the temple that is the seat of Lama Ngawang Tsultrim Rinpoche who made the Earth Treasure Vases for our global community. This sacred place, is calling to be rebuilt and serve as a spiritual home to pilgrims and practitioners from all over the world.

To fulfill this vision, we are seeking ongoing engagement and support. Please join us and make Tolu Gompa your spiritual home too.

NEPAL MONASTERY REBUILDING PROJECT

Revitalizing Our Home Temple

Lama Ngawang Tsultrim Rinpoche, the current abbot of our root temple, Tolu Gompa, is responsible for introducing us to the practice of the Earth Treasure Vases through his teacher, Charok Rinpoche and crafting them for us. His monastery, one of the oldest in Nepal, is a precious jewel and it is in desperate need of being rebuilt.

Destroyed by the 2014 earthquake that rocked the top of Mt Everest, Tolu Tharling Gompa with its sweeping views of the Himalayas is surrounded by caves and holy places where the veil between the worlds is thin. A place of refuge in a world out of balance, it is a place to stop and renew a connection with the primordial wisdom awareness of an ancient lineage.

Our dream is to revitalize this ancient seat so that it is relevant today, restoring this ancient place of retreat into a thriving resilient land-based community once again.
